BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Birmingham-Southern senior Tyler Wise (Birmingham, Ala./Spain Park HS) of baseball and junior Bailey Murphy (Trussville, Ala./Hewitt-Trussville) of softball were named the BSC/Piggly Wiggly Student-Athletes of the Week for their performance in competition February 25 – March 3.
Wise batted .643 in three wins over the weekend. He was 9-of-14 from the plate, hitting two doubles and a triple with seven RBI and two runs scored. In his 14 at-bats, Wise struck out just one time. His best performance came in Saturday’s 8-3 win over Oshkosh when he was 4-of-5 at the plate with three RBI. He had a double and a triple in the game and came just a home run short of the cycle.
Murphy led the team from the batters box and had an impact from the mound. She helped lead the Panthers to a 4-1 week. The junior hit .438 with a .938 slugging percentage in 16 at bats. She finished the week with seven hits, including two home runs and two doubles, nine RBI and four runs scored. Murphy also pitched nine innings, striking out eight and giving up just one earned run for a 0.78 ERA. She had a hand in one of the bullpens shutouts this week and earned a win.
