BSC/Piggly Wiggly Student-Athletes of the Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Birmingham-Southern senior Tyler Wise (Birmingham, Ala./Spain Park HS) of baseball and sophomore Jessica Perley (Vestavia Hills, Ala./Vestavia HS) of softball were named the BSC/Piggly Wiggly Student-Athletes of the Week for their performance in competition March 25-31.

 

Wise batted .500 in four games last week, going 7-of-14 with six RBI, three runs and just one strikeout. Wise started the week with a 2-of-4 performance from the plate, including an RBI and a run scored, in a 4-2 win over No. 12 Huntingdon. Then in the three-game SAA series against Berry, Wise was 5-of-10 with the bat in his hand with five RBI and two runs scored. Four of his RBI came in game three against Berry, where his three-run triple in the eighth gave BSC a 12-2 lead and run-ruled the Vikings.

 

Perley went 3-0 this week to help lead the Panthers to an undefeated week and catapult them to first place in the league with a sweep of No. 13 Berry.  The Vikings came into the series averaging 8.32 runs per game and Perley held them to just three earned.  In a team-high 19.2 innings in the circle, she struck out 13 and allowed just three walks for the week.  Perley finished with a 1.07 ERA with two complete games and a shutout. She now leads the league with a 1.77 ERA.
