BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Birmingham-Southern junior Burk Williams (Memphis, Tenn./White State HS) of the football team and sophomore Abby Kay Choate (Tifton, Ga./Tift County HS) of women’s soccer were named BSC/Piggly Wiggly Student-Athletes of the Week for their performance in competition September 3-9.
Williams came off the bench in the third quarter to throw a game and career-high 315 yards, the second most in program history. He completed 14-of-25 passes with two touchdowns and no interceptions. His precision passes to the wide-outs helped lead the Panthers comeback 41-35 road victory over Huntingdon College.
Choate scored one goal and added two assists in two games last week. She scored the game-winning golden goal in the second overtime period against Covenant, giving the Panthers the 2-1 win. Her two assists came on the first two goals of a 3-1 road win over Agnes Scott on Wednesday. Choate leads the team in assists with five so far this season.
