SAN ANTONIO, Texas –
The Birmingham-Southern women’s basketball team lost 65-55 on the road, Friday, to Trinity University in San Antonio. The Tigers move to 13-5 overall and 7-3 in conference play, while the Panthers drop to 8-10 overall and 3-7 in the SCAC.

BSC was up early in the game, leading by six, 12-6, by the 15:38 mark of the first half. Two three-pointers from Trinity tied it up, however, and the teams traded leads after that point, with neither one leading by more than three until a pair of free throws put the Tigers up by five, 28-23, with 21 seconds left in the half. Trinity took that lead into the locker room at halftime.

The Tigers rattled off seven straight points to open the second half and go up 35-23 for their largest lead of the game. BSC would come back down the stretch to cut it to four, twice, but the Tigers nailed seven free throws in the last 1:23 (while BSC hit one free throw) to clinch the 10-point victory.

Freshman Alex Adams led the Panthers with 13 points and eight rebounds, while four different Tigers scored in double figures, led by Ali Marzella and Kelsey Goodell with 14 apiece. Lindsey Hovland led with 11 rebounds, and Danielle Hubenak had six assists.

Trinity out-shot BSC in every category, hitting 15-of-46 (32.6 percent) to the Panthers’ 16-of-54 (29.6 percent) showing from the field, and 5-of-16 (31.3 percent) to BSC’s 5-of-21 (23.8 percent) from three-point range. At the line, BSC went 18-of-26 (69.2 percent), while Trinity was 30-of-38 (78.9 percent).

BSC is back in action tomorrow against Southwestern University at 6 p.m. in Georgetown, Texas.
