Track and Field posts strong performances at Tiger Indoor Invitational

SEWANEE, Tenn. –
The Birmingham-Southern track and field teams both posted impressive performances at the Tiger Indoor Invitational, Saturday, hosted by Sewanee.

For the men, freshman Andrew Wheatley placed first in the high jump with a mark of 1.89 meters, and the Panther 4x400-meter relay team – consisting of sophomore Mitch Swanson, senior John Schultz, freshman Nolan Roberts, and freshman Robert Willett – also finished first with a time of 3:39.29. Junior L.D. Woods was second in the 55-meter dash with a time of 6.63 seconds, Roberts was fifth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 54.15 seconds, and sophomore Antonio Castanon was fifth in the shot put with a distance of 10.83 meters.

On the women’s side, junior Mary Elaine Williamson finished second in the mile run with a time of 5:20.25, and junior Emily Moore was sixth with a time of 5:42.93. Junior Caitlin Hodges was also sixth in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 11:33.76.

“I was pleased with the way we performed as an overall team,” head coach Kenneth Cox said. “There were a few team members that were finally able to compete, and they were focused and excited! Each week we are getting better and continue to grow both mentally and physically.”

The Panthers will compete at the DePauw Indoor Invitational this Saturday, Feb. 13, in Greencastle, Ind.
