BSC Gets Midweek Win Over LaGrange, 9-4

LAGRANGE, Ga. – Brandon Perry went 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI to lead Birmingham-Southern (4-2) to a 9-4 win over LaGrange College (2-6) Tuesday at Phil Williamson Stadium at Cleaveland Field.

Birmingham-Southern finished the day with 16 hits that included four-doubles and a triple while limiting LaGrange to six hits. 

The Panthers scored a run in the second and two in the third to take a 3-0 lead. Jeremy Hatley, who went 3-for-4, led off the second with a double and scored on an Ethan Netherton ground out.  

Brandon Perry delivered a one out single followed by a Taylor McCracken doubled to set the tables in the third.  Perry scored on a LC fielding error and Jacob Mayfield singled home McCracken.

LaGrange cut the deficit to 3-2 on a Josh Shiver two-run double only to see the Panthers extend the lead to 4-2 when Matt Brown came home on a Perry single.

Brown opened the sixth with a single and after advancing to third on a McCracken single scored on a passed ball to give BSC a 5-2 lead.

LaGrange answered with a run in the bottom of the sixth before BSC plated three runs in the seventh to take an 8-3 lead.  Hatley reached on a bunt single and David Bourbonnais was hit by a pitch to start the seventh   Tanner McGill's single to the short scored pinch runner Brandon Marino and Perry belted a two-run double. 

LC again answered with a run in the bottom of the seventh only to see BSC add another run in the top of the eighth. Brandon Marino singled and scored on a Netherton single through the right side for a 9-4 lead.

McCracken finished the day 2-for-5 with a run scored while Mayfield was 2-for 5 with an RBI and Brown was 2-for-5 with two runs scored for BSC.

Bourbonnais (1-0), who was one of five hurlers to take the hill for BSC, was credited with the win, recording three strikeouts and giving up an unearned run on two hits. Tyler Brooks (0-1) gave up four runs on nine hits with a pair of strikeouts to take the loss for LaGrange.

Ethan Wilkinson started and pitched 2.1 innings with a strikeout while allowing two runs, one earned on two hits. Evan Grovenstein worked 1.2 scoreless innings with three strikeouts and only gave up one hit.   Miles Nordgren had three strikeouts and gave up a run on one hit and Blake Yance had two strikeouts in a scoreless ninth inning.
