MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Huntingdon College (12-5) scored five unanswered runs through the fourth and fifth innings en route to a 4-1 win over No. 17 Birmingham-Southern (11-7) Tuesday at Posey Field.
The Panthers got on the board first the fourth inning. Ethan Netherton was hit by a pitch followed by a David Bourbonnais single to center field to start the inning. Brandon Perry's sac-fly scored Netherton to give BSC a 1-0 lead.
Huntingdon answered with four runs in the bottom of the fourth and one in the fifth. Keegan Lambeth, Tyler Blackwell and Evan Agnew highlighted the inning with RBI singles and Trey Smith singled home Caleb Astin in the fifth to give HC a 4-1 lead.
Grant Lowman earned the win on the mound for the Hawks to improve to 1-0. Lowman worked 5.1 innings allowing one run on four hits while striking out four.
Evan Grovenstein pitched four innings in relief of Bourbonnais as the pitcher of record for the Panthers. Grovenstein fell to 0-1 while allowing three runs on four hits with three strikeouts.
The Panthers will host Oglethorpe for a Southern Athletic Association series, beginning this Friday at 6 p.m. at Striplin Field. The series continues with single games on Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m. each day.
