BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Birmingham-Southern jumped out to 5-0 lead en route to a 12-6 Southern Athletic Association win over Oglethorpe on Sunday at Striplin Field.
The Panthers won their third straight to improve to 14-7 overall and 6-0 in conference play while Oglethorpe fell to 2-13 overall and 1-5 in the SAA.
BSC scored a run in the first and third innings and four in the fourth to take a 6-0 lead and later added five runs in the eighth to enter the ninth leading 12-0.
Oglethorpe scored six runs in the ninth to finish the scoring on the afternoon.
Mayfield and McGill each had two RBI while Grovenstein, Yance, Haynes, Campbell, Braxton Marino and Denton drove in a run apiece.
Grovenstein pitched five scoreless innings with five strikeouts and scattered six hits to earn the win and improve to 1-1.
Kyle Mitchell gave up six runs, five earned, on 10 hits with a strikeout to take the loss for the Petrels and fall to 1-2.
