BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Birmingham-Southern Head Baseball Coach Jan Weisberg announced that brothers Luke and Ross Anderson, from Section High School Section, Ala., will join the program next season as the pair have completed their intent to enroll in the college.
Luke, an infielder, hit .336 in 2014. He totaled 15 extra-base hits, with 12 doubles and three home runs, knocking in 55 RBI in the process. He is also a threat on the bases where he stole 19 of 20 bags this year. Luke was also a presence on the mound for the Lions, posting a 4-2 record with 61 strikeouts in only 38 innings pitched. Luke was named to the 2014 All–County and All-Area teams to go with his 2013 All-State Honorable Mention recognition. (2014 All-State awards have not yet been released).
Ross, an outfielder, carried the load for the Lions offensively. He hit .464 with 55 RBIs, 14 doubles, four triples and four home runs in 2014. In addition he stole 8 of 10 bases. In dual duty, he served as Section's closer in 2014 and posted a 3.86 ERA with a 2-0 record and five saves. Ross was also named 2014 All-County and All-Area in addition his 2013 First-Team All-State recognition.
In addition to great individual achievements, Luke and Ross have pushed their teams to compete at a high level during the course of their careers. In 2014 they led Section to the 2A State Finals, and were also Area Champions in 2012, 2013, and 2014. They were led by Coach Drew Davis at Section High School.
Weisberg is excited about the presence of both Luke and Ross in the 2015 Panther lineup. "Both Luke and Ross bring a physical and highly intense game to the table," Weisberg said. "We expect both to step in and make an impact on the 2015 team. They are highly successful young men already and we look forward to them continuing on that path at BSC."
