Stevens repeats as SAA Pitcher of the Year; eight Panthers earn All-Conference honors

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Senior Blake Stevens was voted Southern Athletic Association Pitcher of the Year for the second straight year, and eight Panthers were named to the All-Conference teams, the league office announced today.

Stevens, a right-hander from Atlanta, Ga., is tied for third in the nation with 89 strikeouts, is tied for fifth with eight wins, and ranks 13th in the nation with a 0.88 ERA. He was named a Preseason All-American after earning 2014 All-American and All-Region accolades, and was named 2014 South Region Player of the Year.

Stevens also earned First-Team All-Conference honors, along with senior catcher Jacob Mayfield and senior relief pitcher David Bourbonnais, who both also earned Preseason All-America nods this year. Junior infielder Taylor McCracken, junior shortstop Matt Brown, and sophomore designated hitter Zach Wingate received Second-Team spots, and sophomore outfielder Sam Roberts and sophomore right-handed pitcher Stephen Himic both earned Honorable Mention nods.

The fourth-ranked Panthers are in action at home this weekend, hosting the 2015 SAA Championship. Top-seeded BSC defeated eighth-seeded Centre yesterday and faces fifth-seeded Berry today.

Millsaps infielder Keith Shumaker was voted Player of the Year, Oglethorpe pitcher Matt Davis was voted Newcomer of the Year, and Oglethorpe's Dan Giordano was voted Coach of the Year.
