BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – No. 4 Birmingham-Southern baseball held off a late rally by Sewanee Sunday to take the 7-6 win in the 10th inning. The game winner was scored on a walkoff hit by pitch with one out on the board. BSC (32-6, 19-2) has now won 16 of its last 17 games heading into the Southern Athletic Association tournament.
Preston White (Memphis, Tenn./Memphis University School) led the team, going 2-for-4 with three runs and two RBI. His two hits were both deep bombs to left. He now has six homers on the year. Andy Hammond (Oxford, Ala./Oxford HS) earned the win after one inning of work. He sat down three straight Tigers in the 10th to setup the win.
With bases loaded, and one out on the board, David Scott (Atlanta, Ga./Woodward Academy) came up to the plate. He took the first pitch of his at bat off his hip to score Sam Roberts (Johns Creek, Ga./Blessed Trinity), who started the inning off with a single to left on a 1-1 pitch.
