Player of the Year was captured by Berry's Alfred Francis while Himic of Birmingham-Southern claimed Pitcher of the Year. Newcomer of the Year status went to Colin Brown of Hendrix and Jan Weisberg of Birmingham-Southern was named Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season by his peers.

A senior shortstop from Conyers, Ga., Berry's Alfred Francis had an unbelievable spring at the plate en route to capturing the SAA Player of the Year honor. He led the league with a scorching .467 batting average and was also tops in hits (35), total bases (50), triples (3) and sacrifice hits (4). Additionally, Francis ranked inside the Top 5 in other major statistical categories including slugging percentage (3rd), on-base percentage (4th), RBI (5th) and runs scored (5th). To demonstrate how tough an out he was, Francis struck out only twice in 91 SAA plate appearances.

Himic, a senior right-handed pitcher from Birmingham, was nothing short of dominant on the mound for the Panthers in 2017. The local product compiled a sterling 9-0 overall record (6-0 in SAA) to go along with the league's best earned run average of 1.94 (1.35 in SAA). Himic used pinpoint control to offset his opponents, walking only 14 batters in 69.2 innings pitched and uncorking only one wild pitch the entire season. He tossed four complete games and recorded an SAA-best three shutouts on his way to earning the distinction of Pitcher of the Year.

A junior transfer from Sonoma, California, Colin Brown emerged as one of the league's top pitchers after an outstanding 2017 campaign. Brown compiled a 5-4 overall record this spring but posted a 4-2 mark in SAA play that included a league-best four complete games. In conference games he ranked second in innings pitched with 46.2, third in strikeouts with 36 and sixth in earned run average at 3.06. His start at Millsaps on April 1 typified his outstanding body of work as he tossed 7 complete innings, allowed only 3 hits and one earned run while striking out six to pick up the win.

Jan Weisberg of Birmingham-Southern just completed his 11th regular season as head coach of the Panthers program and delivered another banner year as they captured their fourth consecutive regular season crown on the strength of a 32-6 overall record (19-2 in SAA). His squad enters the postseason ranked inside the Top 10 yet again (ranked No. 3 in the country by D3baseball.com). Weisberg earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from Kentucky in 1993.
