DEMOREST, Ga. – The Birmingham-Southern baseball team lost to Piedmont on Sunday afternoon, dropping the final game of the weekend series 17-2.
The Panthers scored the first of its two runs in the top of the third inning. Senior Ross Anderson (Section, Ala./Section HS) led off the inning with a double and advanced to third on an A.J. Hunt (Memphis, Tenn./Memphis University School) before scoring on a fielder's choice RBI by Hyl Kimbrough (Powder Springs, Ga./Mt. Paran Christian).
BSC's final run came in the fifth inning off a Hunt solo home run.
Piedmont scored three runs in the fourth, sixth and eighth innings and had its biggest production in the seventh with eight runs.
Andy Hammond (Oxford, Ala./Oxford HS) started for the Panthers and put in five and two-thirds innings on the mound. He picked up the loss.
Birmingham-Southern will come back to the Hilltop for its home opener against LaGrange College on Tuesday, Feb. 20. First pitch for the game is scheduled for 7 p.m.
