BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The No. 14 Birmingham-Southern baseball team picked up its fifth win of the season on Tuesday night, shutting out the visiting Emory Eagles 3-0 at Striplin Field.
After missing some early opportunities to get runs on the board, including leaving five men stranded in the first two innings, freshman Preston Munns (Marietta, Ga./Lassiter HS) hit a go-ahead solo home run in the sixth inning to put the Panthers up 1-0.
Excellent performances on the mound from starting right-hander Tristan Harvin (Dothan, Ala./Houston Academy), who struck out six of his 18 batters faced, and relievers Josh Galloway (Brentwood, Tenn./Brentwood HS) and Richie Misischia (Dothan, Ala./Regis HS) made sure the one run was all the Panthers would need to secure the win, but BSC would tack on runs in the seventh and eighth innings for good measure.
Harvin picked up the win, allowing the Eagles their only three hits of the evening. Galloway pitched two solid innings, striking out two batters. Misisichia earned the save, striking out five of his six batters faced.
Freshman outfielder Brian Williams (Marietta, Ga./Lassiter HS) led BSC at the plate, going 3-for-4 with an RBI, triple and two walks.
Birmingham-Southern returns to Striplin Field for its next game on Thursday, March 1 for a contest against the Adrian Bulldogs. First pitch for the game is slated for 5 p.m.
