Panthers Suffer Home Defeat to Adrian 7-4

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The No. 14 Birmingham-Southern baseball team dropped its home game against Adrian College 7-4 on Thursday night.

The Bulldogs drew first blood with an unearned run in the top of the first inning after a throwing error by BSC. The Panthers tied it up in the bottom half of the second inning after an RBI single by freshman Dawson Pfost (Hickory Flat, Ga./Sequoyah HS) scored Tyler Wise (Birmingham, Ala./Spain Park HS).

Birmingham-Southern was held scoreless through the next six innings, but the Bulldogs tacked on six more runs with scores in the third, fourth, seventh and eighth innings. Down 7-1 in the bottom of the ninth, the Panthers attempted to mount a comeback. Will Evans (Peachtree City, Ga./Starrs Mill HS) started off the inning with a solo homer and was followed up two outs later by a two-run, RBI single by Will Toner (Atlanta, Ga./Marist HS).

BSC did not have enough outs left to make a comeback, however, as a flyout to the left fielder in the next at-bat ended the game and gave Adrian the 7-4 victory.

Sophomore right-hander Andy Hammond (Oxford, Ala./Oxford HS) ended up on the hook for the loss, tossing three and a third innings and allowing four runs off five hits.

Birmingham-Southern will open up conference play at home against Hendrix College on Saturday, March 3. The Panthers and Warriors will start a doubleheader at 1 p.m. on Saturday before finishing the three-game series on Sunday.
