HOOVER, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern baseball team defeated the DePauw University Tigers 8-1 on Friday night, improving to 3-4 on the season.
The Panthers plated two runs in the first inning, a run in the third, four runs in the sixth and their final run in the eighth inning to total eight runs, while allowing just one run in the top of the final inning.
Senior Jake Cook (Oxford, Ala./Oxford HS) got the start on the mound for BSC, pitching seven innings, including four perfect innings, to earn his first win of the season. He allowed just three hits during his outing and struck out seven DePauw batters.
Sophomore Brian Williams (Marietta, Ga./Lassiter HS) got the Panthers started on offense with a solo home run in the first inning. But it was fellow sophomore Cole Steadman (Birmingham, Ala./Briarwood Christian) who led the team throughout the game, going 3-of-5 from the plate with two RBI and a run scored.
All eight of BSC's runs were scored by a different player.
Birmingham-Southern returns on Saturday, Feb. 23 to face North Park at 5 p.m. at the Hoover Metropolitan Complex.
