HOOVER, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern baseball team defeated the Thomas More Saints 4-1 on a sunny afternoon at the Hoover Metropolitan Complex on Sunday.
BSC spread the scoring out throughout the game, picking up a single run in the first, second, fifth and seventh innings.
The Panthers then picked up their third run of the game after a Cory Price (Hoover, Ala./UAH) double scored Wise from first base.
BSC capped the scoring in the seventh when the Saints walked Hunt with the bases loaded to score Williams.
Senior right-hander John Michael Shirley (Mobile, Ala./UMS-Wright Prep) got the start for the Panthers and pitched a strong seven innings, allowing just one earned run off five hits, facing 27 batters and striking out eight of them. With his performance, Shirley earned his first win of the year.
Junior RHP Robbie Lively (Helena, Ala./Southern Union) came in in relief of Shirley, tossing two perfect innings to earn his second save of the season.
With the win, the Panthers achieved a perfect 3-0 record over the three-day weekend and improved to 5-4 on the season.
Birmingham-Southern will play its next game at home against Wisconsin-Oshkosh on Friday, March 1 at 4 p.m.
