BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern baseball team defeated the Roanoke College Maroons 7-3 on Tuesday night, extending its win streak to eight games.
The Panther offense scored throughout the game, including putting up crooked numbers in the fourth and seventh innings.
Sophomore Brian Williams (Marietta, Ga./Lassiter HS) knocked in the first two BSC runs of the game. He got the scoring started with a solo home run in the first inning, his team-leading second homer of the year. He batted another run in in the second inning with an RBI single to give BSC a 2-0 lead.
Another BSC home run, this time by sophomore Dawson Pfost (Hickory Flat, Ga./Sequoyah HS), scored another two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. It was Pfost's first homer of the season.
The Panthers scored their final three runs in the fifth and seventh innings.
Senior lefty Richie Misischia (Dothan, Ala./Regis HS) got the start and pitched four shutout innings, allowing just three hits and striking out six batters.
Freshman Oliver Livingston (Decatur, Ga./Decatur HS) came in in relief of Misischia and pitched two more shutout innings, earning his first win of the season.
The Maroons attempted a comeback in the final inning with Joe Kitlas hitting a three-run home run to cut the BSC lead to four. But junior Robbie Lively (Helena, Ala./Southern Union) limited the damage and finished out the game, securing the win for the Panthers.
With the win, Birmingham-Southern improves to 10-4 on the year and will head into its first conference series with the momentum of an eight-game winning streak.
The Panthers will travel to Millsaps for their opening Southern Athletic Association contest on Saturday, March 9.
