BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern baseball team defeated No. 12 Huntingdon 4-2 at Striplin Field on Tuesday night.
With the win, the Panthers improved to 18-8 on the season.
BSC drew first blood, plating one run in the first before adding three more runs in the third inning. The Panthers gave up two runs in later innings, but held on to their lead to earn the victory and the season sweep of the Hawks.
An RBI groundout by Will Toner (Atlanta, Ga./Marist HS) scored Cole Steadman (Birmingham, Ala./Briarwood Christian HS) for BSC's first run. Then the Panthers capped their scoring in the third after an RBI single by Tyler Wise (Birmingham, Ala./Spain Park HS) and a two-run home run by Preston Munns (Marietta, Ga./Lassiter HS).
The homer for Munns was his third of the season.
Sophomore Adam Richards (Santa Rosa Beach, Fla./South Walton HS) got the start for the Panthers, pitching four scoreless innings and striking out five batters.
Sophomore Tristan Harvin (Dothan, Ala./Houston Academy), who pitched two scoreless innings, earned the win, his first of the season. And junior Robbie Lively (Helena, Ala./Southern Union) came in for the ninth inning and picked up the save, his third of the year.
Birmingham-Southern will face the Berry College Vikings in a Southern Athletic Association series March 30-31. The Panthers will open the series against the Vikings with a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 2 p.m.
