ATLANTA – Birmingham-Southern baseball student-athlete Tyler Wise (Birmingham, Ala./Spain Park HS) was named the Southern Athletic Association Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.
Wise swung a hot bat for the Panthers in four games last week, going 7-of-14 from the plate with six RBI and three runs scored.
In a single mid-week game against No. 12 Huntingdon, Wise went 2-of-4 with an RBI and run scored helping the Panthers to a 4-2 win over the Hawks.
Then in the weekend conference series against Berry College, the senior first basemen batted .500, going 5-of-10 from the plate with five RBI and two runs scored. Four of his RBI came in the series finale as the Panthers run-ruled the Vikings 12-2. It was Wise's three-run triple in the bottom of the eighth inning, in fact, that gave BSC the 10-run lead and ended the game early.
BSC took two of the three games from Berry.
This is Wise's second SAA Player of the Week honor this season.
Birmingham-Southern's next game will be on Tuesday, April 2 when the Panthers travel to Atlanta to take on the Emory Eagles.
