BSC Opens Oglethorpe Series with 6-0 Shutout

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern baseball team defeated Oglethorpe 6-0 on Friday night to open up the Southern Athletic Association series with a victory.

The Panthers shut out the Stormy Petrels on the back of a stellar start by senior right-hander Jake Cook (Oxford, Ala./Oxford HS), who pitched six innings, striking out six and allowing five hits.

Junior Hanan Mauldin (Florence, Ala./Florence HS) came in in relief of Cook and continued the dominance on the mound, tossing three complete innings and allowing just one hit.

At the plate, junior second baseman Will Toner (Atlanta, Ga./Marist HS) got the Panthers started with a two-run home run in the fourth inning. It was Toner's third home run of the year.

The Panthers would add another run in the sixth off an error by Oglethorpe and then cap the scoring with a three-run seventh inning, giving BSC the final 6-0 win.

With the win, Birmingham-Southern improves to 21-10 overall and 8-5 in the SAA.
