DANVILLE, Ky. – The Birmingham-Southern baseball team routed the Centre College Colonels 15-3 in seven innings on Sunday afternoon, taking the series 2-1.
A six-run first inning propelled the Panthers to start the game as they added nine more runs over the course of six more innings.
BSC's scoring clinic was led by sophomore shortstop Alfredo Granier (Atlanta, Ga./Holy Innocents' Episcopal School), who finished the game with a team-high four hits, two runs and three RBI. Sophomore outfielder Cole Steadman (Birmingham, Ala./Briarwood Christian HS) also had a productive day at the plate, going 2-of-4 with a run and three RBI.
Junior right-hander Andy Hammond (Oxford, Ala./Oxford HS) got the start on the mound, tossing six innings and allowing three runs off six hits while striking out five. His performance earned him the win, his fourth of the season.
With the win on Sunday, Birmingham-Southern improves to 25-11 overall and 12-6 in the Southern Athletic Association. The Panthers will travel to Piedmont for their next game on Tuesday, April 16.
