DEMOREST, Ga. – The Birmingham-Southern baseball team knocked off No. 14 Piedmont College 14-7 on the road on Tuesday night.
After falling behind 5-2 in the third inning, the Panthers reeled off nine unanswered runs in the next two innings to take the 11-5 lead. BSC then capped its scoring with three runs in the top of the ninth, giving the Panthers plenty of cushion for the final three outs.
At the plate, three different Panthers – Brian Williams (Marietta, Ga./Lassiter HS), Richie Misischia (Dothan, Ala./Regis HS) and Alfredo Granier (Atlanta, Ga./Holy Innocents' Episcopal School) – finished the game with three RBI each. Granier and A.J. Hunt (Memphis, Tenn./Memphis University School) led the Panthers with three hits apiece, and the Panthers ended the game with 16 total hits.
Right-handed sophomore Tristan Harvin (Dothan, Ala./Houston Academy) got the start on the mound and pitched three innings. But it was junior southpaw Hanan Mauldin (Florence, Ala./Florence HS) who got the win after pitching four scoreless innings, allowing just two hits while striking out six. The win was Mauldin's second of the season.
Tuesday's game against Piedmont was the sixth game BSC has scored 10 or more runs this season.
With the win, Birmingham-Southern improves to 26-11 overall. The Panthers will wrap up the regular season with an SAA series against Sewanee on April 19-20.
