No. 24 Panthers travel to Montgomery to face Huntingdon in fourth-annual Wesley Cup Game

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—The 24th-ranked Birmingham-Southern football team plays its first road game of the 2012 season this Saturday, traveling south to face Huntingdon in Montgomery, Ala., in the fourth-annual Wesley Cup Game.

The Panthers are 1-0 after defeating LaGrange, 41-14, in the home opener last weekend in Panther Stadium. The Hawks are also 1-0 after a 49-33 win at home last weekend against Maryville College.

In BSC's game against LaGrange, senior quarterback Jimmy Stainback led the team with 89 yards rushing on 17 carries, and was 7-of-12 with 165 passing yards and no interceptions. He had two touchdown passes and a touchdown on the ground. Senior tailback Shawn Morris led with 79 receiving yards and had two touchdowns. Sophomore LaPrintence Gunn led the BSC defense with eight total tackles (six solo, two assisted), followed by sophomore Austin Hansard and senior Andrew Shannon with six apiece. Senior Cory Corcoran had two sacks.

In Huntingdon's win against Maryville, senior running back Trevor Manuel scored the first three touchdowns of the game for the Hawks. Senior quarterback Neal Posey also had two touchdown passes.

BSC is 2-1 all-time against Huntingdon. The Panthers won last year's battle in thrilling fashion, scoring on the final play of the game to tie things up and then winning with a Morris touchdown in the second overtime to clinch the 35-29 victory.
