No. 11 BSC travels to face No. 6 Wesley

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.No. 11 Birmingham-Southern is set to face its toughest opponent yet this season as it travels north to Dover, Del., to take on No. 6 Wesley College on Saturday.

The Panthers are undefeated at 5-0, while the Wolverines are 3-1. It will be the first meeting between the programs.

BSC is coming off a 49-21 home win against Austin College this past weekend. Wesley most recently defeated No. 21 Louisiana College, 25-22. All four of the Wolverines' opponents this year have been ranked; their only loss was a 32-25 decision against No. 2 Mary Hardin-Baylor on Sept. 15.

Senior quarterback Jimmy Stainback, who was named Southern Athletic Association Offensive Player of the Week on Monday, leads the BSC offense with 796 passing yards (40-59) and eight touchdowns. Junior tailback Joseph Moultrie, who started this past weekend in place of senior Shawn Morris, who was out with an injury, leads on the ground with 396 yards and seven touchdowns. Sophomore Sam Vermilyea is the leading receiver with 327 yards and five touchdown catches. Senior Andrew Shannon leads the BSC defense with 33 tackles (17 solo), followed by senior Nick Gordon with 32 (19 solo). Senior Jeffery Steele has made two interceptions, and senior Cory Corcoran leads with 2.5 sacks.

The Panthers broke several records last week against Austin, with Stainback throwing for a single-game record three touchdown passes. Vermilyea also broke the single-game receiving yards record with 153, and an 83-yard pass from Stainback to Vermilyea in the first quarter broke the longest pass reception and longest pass completion records. Junior kicker Ryan Laughlin also broke the single-game record for most extra points with seven, and Moultrie broke the record for longest kick return with an endzone-to-endzone touchdown run in the fourth quarter.

For Wesley, quarterback Justin Sottilare is 89-148 with 1,024 yards and 11 touchdowns. Devar Robinson is the team's leading rusher with 201 yards and a touchdown, and Steve Koudossou leads with four touchdown catches and 377 yards. Sosthene Kapepula leads the Wesley defense with 43 tackles (18 solo). Jared Morris leads with four interceptions.
