SEWANEE, Tenn. – A fourth quarter field goal and second half defensive stand by the Birmingham-Southern football team helped lift the Panthers to its 13-10 road win over Southern Athletic Association rival Sewanee Saturday night. The win marked BSC's second consecutive conference win, who moved to 4-2 overall and 2-2 in league play.
Ryder Andrews (Homewood, Ala./Homewood HS) drilled the 33 yard game winner early in the fourth quarter, and the Panthers defense held Sewanee to just three second half points to secure the win.
Trevor Oakes (Somerville, Ala./Hartselle HS) and Zack Seay (DeFuniak Springs, Fla./Freeport HS) led BSC offensively. Oakes completed 22-of-34 passes for a game-high 163 yards. Seay rushed for a game-high 141 yards and a touchdown. His longest of the day was 29 yards.
Andrews handled all kicking duties in the win. He went a perfect in field goals, finishing with seven points. Andrews also earned 164 kickoff yards and 73 punting yards.
Defensively, Garrett Stevens (Social Circle, Ga./Eastside HS) earned a team-high 11 tackles, seven solo, with 1.5 tackles for a loss of two yards and a quarterback hurry. Myles Myers (Alpharetta, Ga./Johns Creek HS) finished right behind him at 10 tackles, six solo, with four tackles for a loss of 16 yards and a sack.
The Panthers return to the Hilltop for homecoming next week. BSC takes on Austin (Tex.) at 2 p.m. in Krulak Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 20.
