No. 22 Panthers roll past Berry, 103-55

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Led by junior Kevin Kegarise with 22 points, the 22nd-ranked Birmingham-Southern basketball team defeated Berry College at home, 103-55, Sunday afternoon in Bill Battle Coliseum.

The Panthers move to 3-0, while the Vikings fall to 0-3. The Panthers have now won 32 straight games at home in Bill Battle Coliseum, a streak dating back to the end of the 2008-09 season. It was also the second straight game with BSC scoring 103 points.

BSC pulled out to a 7-0 lead to start the game and never looked back, leading by 16 mid-way through the first half and 36, 58-22, at halftime.

The Panthers out-scored the Vikings 45-33 in the second half.

Kegarise led all players with his 22 points on 8-of-10 shooting (including 6-of-8 from three-point range). Junior Zac Richards had 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting, and junior Blaise White had 10 points on 3-of-4 shooting. Richards also led with seven rebounds, and White dished out four assists with three steals.

For the game, BSC was 41-of-71 (57.7 percent) from the field, 16-of-31 (51.6 percent) from three-point range, and 5-of-8 (62.5 percent) from the free throw line.

Nasser Almulla led Berry with 14 points, followed by Michael Schulte with 10 points. Mac Whalen and Lake Graham led the Vikings with six rebounds apiece. Almulla led with three assists.

Berry struggled offensively, going 20-of-59 (33.9 percent) overall, 5-of-25 (20 percent) from beyond the arc, and 10-of-12 (83.3 percent) at the line.

BSC out-rebounded the Vikings, 49-24, but turnovers were nearly even as Berry had 17 and BSC had 16.

Fifty of the Panthers' 103 points were scored off the bench, and 25 were scored off Berry turnovers.

The Panthers are at home again this Tuesday night, facing LaGrange College at 7 p.m. in Bill Battle Coliseum.
