No. 22 Men's Basketball moves to 4-0 with 96-65 rout of LaGrange
BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Led by junior Zac Richards with 12 points and 14 rebounds, the No. 22 Birmingham-Southern men's basketball team moved to 4-0 on the season with a 96-65 victory against LaGrange College, Tuesday evening in Bill Battle Coliseum.
The win marks the 33rd straight home win for the Panthers, a streak dating back to the end of the 2008-09 season.
BSC opened the game with a 5-0 lead in the first minute and never trailed, leading by13, 26-13, at the 10:49 mark and going up by as much as 22, 41-19, with 4:57 left in the half before taking a 48-28 lead into the locker room at the half.
The second half was more of the same, with the Panthers holding a 20+ point advantage for the majority of the time, and going up by 30+ for the final 11 minutes before winning 96-65.
Richards, senior Jasen Jonus, and sophomore Nick Murphy all led the team with 12 points each, and Richards led all players with his 14 rebounds. Juniors Blaise White and Kevin Kegarise had three assists apiece, and freshman Larry Thomas led with three steals.
The Panthers shot 47.9 percent (35-of-73) from the field, 34.6 percent (9-of-26) from three-point range, and 85 percent (17-of-20) from the free throw line.
LaGrange's Joey Anderkavich led all players with 15 points, followed by Denzel Robinson with 11. Anderkavich and Robinson also led the team with five rebounds apiece, and Robinson grabbed six steals.
LaGrange shot 35.6 percent (21-of-59) from the field, 21.1 percent (4-of-19) from beyond the arc, and 63.3 percent (19-of-30) from the charity stripe.
BSC out-rebounded LaGrange, 52-34, but turnovers were nearly even as LaGrange had 20 and BSC committed 19.
The Panthers are at home again for their next game, taking on Huntingdon College next Wednesday, Nov. 30, at 7 p.m. in Bill Battle Coliseum.
