BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—The 10th-ranked Birmingham-Southern men's basketball team won its 15th-straight game and 41st-straight home game today with a 85-49 victory against Sewanee in Bill Battle Coliseum.
The Panthers move to 22-1 overall and 14-1 in the SCAC; the Tigers fall to 11-11 overall and 5-9 in the league.
Junior Kevin Kegarise led four Panthers in double digits with 15 points on 5-of-6 shooting, including 4-of-4 from three-point range. Sophomore Nick Murphy recorded 13 points, and senior Jasen Jonus and junior Blaise White added 10 each. Sophomore Jason Holland and freshman Larry Thomas led with five rebounds each. White and junior Zac Richards led with three assists apiece.
BSC out-rebounded Sewanee 46-26 while committing nine turnovers, half the number the Tigers committed. The Panthers also shot nearly 48 percent (33-of-69) from the field, 50 percent (11-of-22) from long-range, and 72.7 percent (8-of-11) from the free throw line.
The Panthers step out of conference play this Tuesday, traveling to Rome, Ga., to face Berry College, then return home next Saturday, Feb. 18, for the regular-season finale, taking on Oglethorpe at 5 p.m. in Bill Battle Coliseum. BSC also hosts the 2012 SCAC Championship, playing as the top seed in the East Division, Feb. 24-26.
