No. 12 BSC falls to LaGrange on the road, 90-68

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Plagued by turnovers and cold shooting from three-point range, the 12th-ranked Birmingham-Southern men's basketball team lost on the road to LaGrange, 90-68, Tuesday evening.

The BSC Panthers fall to 2-1 with their first loss of the season, while the LaGrange Panthers move to 2-0.

BSC led only once in the first half, 5-4, at the 17:09 mark, after which LaGrange scored eight straight in less than a minute to go up 12-5. LaGrange increased its lead to 22-11 by the 10:15 mark, and led by as much as 14 three times, including 38-24 with 3:33 left in the half. BSC went on a 13-4 run after that to close out the half trailing 42-37.

BSC fought back to cut it to 47-45 within the first four minutes of the second half, and even cut it to one, 50-49, on a pair of free throws by senior Kevin Kegarise at the 14:48 mark. LaGrange scored 12 unanswered points after that, however, and never looked back, going up by as much as 24, 90-66, with 30 seconds left in the game. BSC scored once more before the final buzzer, losing 90-68.

BSC turned the ball over 24 times and shot 6-24 (.250) from three-point range. Senior Zac Richards led with 15 points, while sophomore Larry Thomas scored 12, junior Colin Henry had 11, and senior Blaise White had 10. Richards and Henry led all players with 12 rebounds each, and Richards also led with six assists.

Overall BSC shot 24-53 (.453) from the field, and was 14-22 (.636) from the free throw line.

Kyron Anderson led LaGrange with 27 points, and Nick Mitchell had 18. Marcus Vaughn led with seven rebounds. LC shot 27-59 (.458) from the field, 9-19 (.474) from beyond the arc, and 27-44 (.614) from the line.

BSC is on the road again this weekend, traveling to Newport News, Va., for the Christopher Newport/Point Plaza Invitational. The Panthers will face John Carroll University on Saturday, Nov. 24, at 2 p.m. Eastern, and will then play in either the championship or consolation game on Sunday, Nov. 25, at 2 p.m. or 4 p.m. Eastern.
