BSC Defeats Louisiana College 86-84

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern men's basketball team defeated Louisiana College 86-84 on Monday evening, improving to 2-0 on the season.

After battling neck-and-neck for the first seven minutes, the Panthers took a 19-16 lead with 12:40 to go in the first half after a three-pointer by sophomore Ben Spence (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS). Spence's three would end the early cycle of lead changes between both teams as the Panthers took the lead and never surrendered it.

BSC jumped out to a 42-34 lead at halftime, and although they were outscored by the Wildcats 50-44 in the second half, the Panthers held on to win after successfully converting five of six free throws in the final two minutes.

Senior point guard Zachary Allison (Pelham, Ala./Wallace State CC) led the Panthers with 21 points, three assists and six rebounds. Spence also scored in double-digits, hitting seven of his 10 shots for 19 points; he had seven rebounds and three assists.

With the win, the Panthers start 2-0 for the first time since 2014.

Birmingham-Southern's next game will be at Division I Alabama State on Wednesday, November 14 with tipoff set for 7 p.m.
