
LAGRANGE, Ga. – The Birmingham-Southern men's basketball team started off the LaGrange College Wingate Classic with an 82-78 win over Penn State-Altoona on Saturday.
After trailing for most of the game, BSC stormed back late in the second half to win the game in the final five minutes.
As late as 2:12 to play, the Panthers trailed Penn State-Altoona by six points, but two Zachary Allison (Pelham, Ala./Wallace State CC) layups and a three-pointer by freshman Troy Stephens (Atlanta, Ga./St. Pius X Catholic HS) with 1:06 to play gave BSC the 78-77 lead.
The Panthers allowed just one free throw in the final 60 seconds and outscored the opponent 4-1 in the final minute to secure the victory.
Allison led the Panthers with 24 points and eight assists.
With the win, Birmingham-Southern improves to 4-1 on the season. The Panthers will face the host LaGrange College in their final game of the Wingate Classic on Sunday, Nov. 25 at 6 p.m. ET.
