BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern men's basketball team fell at home to Oglethorpe University 91-70 on Friday night.
The Panthers jumped out to an eight-point lead with 11:54 to go in the first half, but the Stormy Petrels took the lead before halftime and did not surrender it in the final 20 minutes.
BSC was led by forward Christian Stewart (Irondale, Ala./Shades Valley HS), who had team-highs in points, 16, and rebounds, 11.
Three other Panthers hit double-digit point totals in the loss: Cole DenBesten (Orlando, Fla./Berry College) with 13, Matt Gonda (Roswell, Ga./Roswell HS) with 11 and Zachary Allison (Pelham, Ala./Wallace State CC) with 10.
Allison also led the Panthers with six assists.
As a team, BSC was 43.8 percent from the field, 25.9 percent from three, and 58.3 percent from the free throw line.
With the defeat, BSC drops to 6-6 overall and 0-2 in the Southern Athletic Association.
Birmingham-Southern will look to bounce back and get a win in its next game, a conference matchup against Berry College on Sunday, Jan. 6. Tipoff for the men's game is scheduled for 3 p.m.
