SEWANEE, Tenn. – The Birmingham-Southern men's basketball team fell to Southern Athletic Association rival Sewanee 70-55 on Friday night.
The Panthers drew first blood to start the game, but soon found themselves in a hole as big as 16 points with seven minutes to go before halftime. BSC was able to cut Sewanee's lead to 11 points after a Christian Stewart (Irondale, Ala./Shades Valley HS) layup sent the Panthers into halftime trailing 39-28.
Birmingham-Southern's tough shooting night continued in the second half. The Panthers could not turn things around and did not get within 10 points of the home team for the remainder of the game.
Senior point guard Zachary Allison (Pelham, Ala./Wallace State CC) led BSC in the loss with 17 points. Stewart finished the game with 11 rebounds.
The Panthers and Tigers have split the series with both teams getting wins over the other at home.
With the loss, Birmingham-Southern drops to 10-8 overall and 4-4 in the SAA.
The Panthers remain on the road for their next game on Sunday, Jan. 27 against the Centre Colonels. Tipoff for the game in Danville, Ky., is set for 3 p.m.
