TUNICA, Miss.—After the second round of the 2012 SCAC Men's Golf Championship, Birmingham-Southern still holds down third place heading into Sunday's final round at Tunica National Golf Course in Tunica, Miss. The top three teams from Friday's play occupied the same place in the standings after Saturday's round on a day when all team scores increased from the opening round.
The Panther team score of 313, 611 for the tournament, was good enough to open a seven-stroke lead over fourth-place Trinity University. The lead is a bigger than the one the Panthers held over the fourth place team after the opening round, Southwestern University. Birmingham-Southern managed to stay only four shots behind second-place Centre College, who now sit at 607 for the tournament after posting a team score of 313 today. However, Oglethorpe University's 304, 595 for the tournament, increased their team lead from three to twelve heading into Sunday.
In the race for medalist honors, Oglethorpe's Eric Quinn remains in first with at 1-under for the tournament after shooting a 76. The four-over score for the day dropped his lead from five strokes to four. He is closely followed by Centre College's Kenyon Cook and Trinity's Kalen Vos as each stand at 3-over par for the tournament after posting identical scores of 72 in the first round and 75 in the second.
Sophomore Landon Michelson shot 79 today to lead the Panthers and is tied for fourth overall with 150 over two rounds.
The final round will tee off tomorrow morning.
