TUNICA, Miss. – The Birmingham-Southern men's golf team placed 13th at the Rhodes College Fall Classic at Tunica National on Monday.
The Panthers were 37-over for the three-round tournament and shot 901 as a team. Huntingdon College was the tournament champion at 18-under par.
Sophomore Sammy Brucker (Franklin, Tenn./Furman) was BSC's top golfer for the Classic. Out of 104 competitors, Brucker finished tied for 28th at 6-over par, shooting rounds of 76, 77 and 69. His round of 69 was his lowest round in his career at BSC.
Senior Thomas Iturbe (Mobile, Ala./UMS-Wright Prep) and sophomore Preston Cox (Frisco, Texas/Southern Arkansas) both finished tied for 34th at 9-over. Iturbe shot rounds of 79, 75 and 71 while Cox had three rounds of 79, 70 and 76.
Rounding out the team for Birmingham-Southern was Britton Khalaf (Metairie, La./Jesuit HS) and Davis Fisher (Greenville, N.C./Junius H. Rose HS). Khalaf ended his tournament tied for 54th at 14-over and Fisher closed out at 25-over par.
Birmingham-Southern will travel to Flowery Branch, Ga., for its next tournament, the Oglethorpe Fall Invitational, on Oct. 6-8.
