FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. – The Birmingham-Southern men's golf team finished in 10th place out of 18 teams at the 2019 Oglethorpe/Royal Lakes Fall Invitational on Tuesday afternoon.
The Panthers ended the tournament at 11-over par with a two-round team score of 587.
BSC was led by sophomore Sammy Brucker (Franklin, Tenn./Furman), who finished tied at 23rd at even par for the tournament. Brucker improved 10 places from day one to day two, shooting a 73 in round one and then a 71 in the final round.
Senior Thomas Iturbe (Mobile, Ala./UMS-Wright Prep) also finished inside the top 30 out of 102 participants. Iturbe shot rounds of 70 and 75 to finish one-over par and tied for 27th.
Freshman Connor Hawkins (Franklin, Tenn./Franklin HS), sophomore Preston Cox (Frisco, Texas/Southern Arkansas), Blake Schambeau (Hoover, Ala./Hoover HS) and freshman Britton Khalaf (Metairie, La./Jesuit HS) also competed for the Panthers.
Hawkins, Cox and Khalaf finished tied for 36th, tied for 57th and tied for 89th, respectively. Schambeau, who played in the tournament as an independent, finished tied for 61st.
Birmingham-Southern's next tournament will be the Berry/Chick-fil-A Invitational on Oct. 20-22.
