Men's Lacrosse falls to No. 8 Lynchburg in season opener

LYNCHBURG, Va.—The Birmingham-Southern men's lacrosse team opened the 2012 season on the road Sunday, falling to No. 8 Lynchburg College, 21-4, in Lynchburg, Va.

Lynchburg won the opening face-off of the game and scored within the first seven seconds, and the Hornets led 15-0 at the half.

The Panthers finally got on the board in the third quarter when senior Jacob McPherson scored, assisted by senior D.J. Ward. Freshman Erik Klein scored the next two BSC goals, one of those assisted by junior Nicco DeRosa, and junior Matt Ivie scored BSC's final goal of the game, assisted by senior Chris Clarke.

BSC led in ground balls, 43-37, but also committed 30 turnovers, 10 more than the Hornets. The Panthers also won 15 of 27 face-offs.

BSC stays on the road for its next game, facing Berry College in Rome, Ga., next Saturday, Feb. 18, at 2 p.m.
