Strong second half propels Men's Lacrosse past Rhodes, 17-4
MEMPHIS, Tenn.--The Birmingham-Southern men's lacrosse team out-scored Rhodes College 11-1 in the second half en route to a 17-4 Southern Athletic Association victory, Saturday afternoon in Memphis.
The teams traded goals in the first quarter, with Rhodes (4-5, 0-2 SAA) leading 3-2 heading into the second quarter, during which the Panthers scored four unanswered to lead 6-3 at halftime.
BSC continued its scoring streak into the third quarter with three straight goals to go up 9-3 before the Lynx scored their final goal of the game at the 11:48 mark. After that, the Panthers scored five straight to end the third quarter, and out-scored Rhodes 3-0 in the fourth quarter for the 17-4 win.
The Panthers out-shot the Lynx 47-19 and led in ground balls 46-39. BSC also committed only four turnovers to Rhodes' 18, and the Panthers were 20-21 on clear attempts.
Senior Andrew Huffman played all 60 minutes in the net for BSC and recorded seven saves.
The Panthers stay on the road for their next two games, continuing SAA action on Friday, March 29, against Sewanee at 4 p.m. in Sewanee, Tenn., and Sunday, March 31, against Centre at 4 p.m. Eastern in Danville, Ky. BSC returns home on Saturday, April 6, hosting Hendrix at noon in Panther Stadium.
