Men's Lacrosse routs Oglethorpe in regular season finale, 23-3

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.--In the regular season finale for both teams, and Senior Day for Birmingham-Southern, the Panther men's lacrosse team defeated Oglethorpe 23-3 Sunday afternoon in Panther Stadium.

With the win, BSC earns the fourth seed in the upcoming Southern Athletic Association Men's Lacrosse Championship, and will host No. 5 Hendrix next weekend in quarterfinal action.

The Panthers move to 6-9 overall and finish the season at 4-3 in conference play. Oglethorpe falls to 1-12 overall and 0-7 in the SAA.

BSC scored six goals in the first quarter and then led 15-0 at halftime of today's game. The Stormy Petrels broke the shutout at the 11:52 mark of the third quarter, and would score only twice more after that.

Today was Senior Day for BSC; Nicco DeRosa, Andrew Huffman, Matt Ivie, and Brennan Ott were honored in a pregame ceremony.

Freshman Evan Lalande led all players with four goals, while DeRosa and freshmen Harris Oates and Luke Herline scored three each. Ott led with five assists as well as 12 ground balls, and junior Peter Raffanti led with three caused turnovers. Huffman played the first 35 minutes in goal and made four saves; sophomore Conor Perine came in for the final 25 minutes, also recording four saves.

Cooper O'Brien recorded 17 saves for Oglethorpe. John Shramek scored two of the Petrels' three goals.

The Panthers led in shots, 60-15, and ground balls, 64-50. OU won 16-of-30 face-offs and was 18-37 on clears, while BSC won 14 face-offs and was 27-29 on clears. The Panthers were also 2-2 on man-up goal opportunities.
