BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern men's lacrosse team defeated Ferrum College 12-9 on Thursday evening, improving to 4-1 on the year.
After ending the first 15 minutes in a 2-2 stalemate, a seven-goal second period quarter for BSC propelled the Panthers to a 9-4 lead at the half.
The visitors outscored Birmingham-Southern 5-3 in the second half, but it was not enough to overcome the lead the Panthers built in the opening half hour.
Freshman Carter Watkins (Charlotte, N.C./Adrey Kell HS) led the BSC offense with five goals in the game, including three in the second period.
Taylor and Thompson had two and three goals, respectively, in the game against Ferrum. Thompson also led all players with 10 ground balls.
In goal, sophomore Matt Quill (Fort Mill, S.C./Coker College) had eight saves and improved his record to 4-1.
Birmingham-Southern will remain at home for its next game on Sunday, March 4 against Aurora. The game is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Krulak Stadium.
