BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern men's lacrosse team defeated Concordia University Wisconsin at home on Sunday afternoon, taking down the Falcons 11-7 and improving to 6-2 on the season.
Junior Davis Thompson (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Mountain Lakes HS) led the Panthers with three goals and two assists. Three other Panthers – Peyton Taylor (Vestavia Hills, Ala./Vestavia Hills HS), Taylor Carson (Birmingham, Ala./Mountain Brook HS) and Justin Dennis (Buford, Ga./McCallie School) had two goals each.
CUW got the first goal of the game on a man-up opportunity, but the Panthers quickly rebounded, scoring three unanswered goals to close the first period with a 5-2 lead. BSC scored another goal in the second and took a 6-4 lead into halftime.
A quiet third period saw just one goal by BSC's Thompson but the Panthers and Falcons combined for seven goals in the final 15 minutes. Birmingham-Southern scored four of the seven final goals to secure the 11-7 win over the visitors.
Panther goalie Matt Quill (Fort Mill, S.C./Coker College) finished the game with six saves.
Birmingham-Southern will remain at home for its next matchup, its Southern Athletic Association opener against the Sewanee Tigers. The game is scheduled for Thursday, March 15 at 7 p.m.
