BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern men's lacrosse team defeated Huntingdon College 12-7 at General Krulak Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
After going down 3-0 to start the game, the Panthers rebounded and scored three straight themselves to tie it up 3-3 at the end of the first quarter.
BSC added outscored the Hawks 3-1 in the next 15 minutes to take a 6-4 lead into halftime.
In the second half, Birmingham-Southern tacked on three more goals each period, outscoring Huntingdon 6-2 to close out the game.
Offensively, the Panthers were led by freshman Carter McAlpin (Trussville, Ala./Hewitt-Trussville HS) and senior Peyton Taylor (Vestavia Hills, Ala./Vestavia Hills HS), who had three goals each. Sophomore Carter Watkins (Charlotte, N.C./Adrey Kell HS) also contributed offensively, assisting on four goals.
Senior goalie Matt Quill (Fort Mills, S.C./Coker College) played all 60 minutes and recorded 11 saves.
With the win, Birmingham-Southern improves to 3-2 on the season and retained control of the Yellowhammer Trophy, the prize for winning the annual matchup between the two teams.
The Panthers will host Wabash at Krulak Stadium for their next game on Thursday, March 7 at 7 p.m.
