SEWANEE, Tenn. – The Birmingham-Southern men's lacrosse team came up just short in the quarterfinal round of the Southern Athletic Association tournament on Saturday, falling to Sewanee 13-12 in overtime.
The Panthers and Tigers battled back and forth in the first half with BSC jumping out to a 4-2 lead in the first and Sewanee returning the favor by taking a 9-6 lead into halftime.
Neither team could find any separation at all in the second half, as the two squads ended the third quarter and regulation tied.
In the end, it would be Sewanee's sudden victory goal in the first overtime period that sealed it, giving the home side the final 13-12 victory.
Senior Peyton Taylor (Vestavia Hills, Ala./Vestavia Hills HS) led the Panther offense in the elimination game, scoring five goals and an assist. Sophomore Carter Watkins (Charlotte, N.C./Adrey Kell HS) added three goals to the game.
Senior Matt Quill (Fort Mill, S.C./Coker College) got the start in goal and recorded 24 saves.
With the loss, Birmingham-Southern's season comes to a conclusion with the Panthers tallying a 7-9 overall record.
