ATLANTA – Five Birmingham-Southern men's lacrosse student-athletes were named to 2019 All-Southern Athletic Association teams, the conference announced on Tuesday.
BSC's five selections were led by senior midfielder Davis Thompson (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Mountain Lakes HS), who was named the 2019 SAA Offensive Player of the Year and grabbed First Team honors.
Thompson scored 26 goals and added 24 assists on the season, giving him 50 points for the year. His goal tally was third on the team and 14th in the SAA while he was fifth in the league in total assists. Thompson finished the season with a 58.3 shot percentage and 62 ground balls.
Seniors Peyton Taylor (Vestavia Hills, Ala./Vestavia Hills HS) and Greg Wallace (Fairhope, Ala./Bayside Academy) earned Second Team All-SAA recognition. Taylor was the BSC and SAA leader in goals this season with 49 goals. He also added nine assists and had a 70.7 shot-on-goal percentage.
Wallace, a short-stick defensive midfielder, had five goals and eight assists on the season, causing 13 turnovers and picking up 42 ground balls.
McAlpin led his team and the conference in assists this season with 43. He also scored 25 goals, which was fourth on the team. McAlpin finished the year with a team-high 68 points.
Martin, a defender, had 16 caused turnovers in 2019. He also had 22 ground balls and one goal scored.
Birmingham-Southern finished the 2019 campaign with a 7-9 record overall and ended the year with a 13-12 overtime loss to Sewanee in the SAA quarterfinals.
