No. 22 BSC falls to Covenant, 2-1, in first loss of 2013

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga.—The 22nd-ranked Birmingham-Southern men's soccer team had its unbeaten record tarnished Wednesday evening, falling to Covenant College on the road, 2-1.

Covenant moves to 4-1-2, while BSC falls to 6-1.

After a scoreless first half, Covenant struck in the 50th minute to go up 1-0. BSC tied the game in the 57th minute after an unassisted goal from freshman Dylan Rose. The Scots struck again in the 66th minute to go ahead 2-1 and weathered the BSC attack, including a 90th minute free kick just outside the box.

Covenant out-shot BSC 14-10, although the Panthers led 6-4 in shots-on-goal. Freshman Conner Quiggle led with three shots, while junior goalkeeper Jonas Heidrich recorded two saves.

BSC stays on the road for its next three games, beginning with a trip to Atlanta next Wednesday, Sept. 25, to face Emory at 7 p.m. Eastern.
