ATLANTA – Four Birmingham-Southern men's soccer student-athletes were voted All-Southern Athletic Association in 2017, the conference announced Monday.
Two Panthers were selected Second Team All-SAA while two received All-SAA Honorable Mention honors.
Junior goalkeeper Galen Curry (Birmingham, Ala./Spain Park HS) and senior defender Tylan Jones were selected Second Team All-SAA. Curry started 14 of BSC's 16 matches this season and put together a record of 5-7-2. Curry led the conference in total saves (75) and save percentage (.833).
Jones, despite playing in just seven matches, earned the respect of the SAA head coaches with his play on the back line this year. Jones ends his BSC career as a three-time member of the All-SAA team. He was an All-SAA Honorable Mention his sophomore campaign and has earned Second Team All-SAA honors the last two seasons.
Junior defender Luke Hambleton (Fort Walton Beach, Fla./Choctawhatchee HS) and sophomore midfielder Ryan Hepp (Homewood, Ala./Homewood HS) were voted All-SAA Honorable Mentions. Hambleton started every game for the Panthers this season, logging 1,281 minutes. He played a large role in allowing opponents just 1.15 goals per game, and on the offensive end, Hambleton took 17 corners and had four assists.
Hepp was Birmingham-Southern's leading scorer with five goals on the year. He started in 15 of BSC's 16 matches this season and played 943 minutes. Hepp took 30 shots with 16 shots on target for a shot-on-goal percentage of .533.
