BSC Rolls to 4-0 Win Over ETBU

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern men's soccer team improved to 4-0 on Thursday night, defeating the Tigers of East Texas Baptist University 4-0 at Preston Goldfarb Field.

After a scoreless first half, the Panthers dominated offensively in the second half with a flurry of goals to secure their unbeaten streak.

Freshman defender Rafael Millan (Ft. Payne, Ala./Ft. Payne HS) scored the first goal of the game in 63rd minute. A ETBU foul gave the Panthers a free kick near the corner of the pitch. Millan curled the ball in towards the goal, and although the Tiger goalkeeper was able to get his hands on it, the power behind the kick was enough to get the ball over the goal line.

From that point BSC did not let up. Less than ten minutes later, in the 72nd minute, senior midfielder Brother Swagler (Birmingham, Ala./Mountain Brook HS) linked up with junior Ryan Hepp (Homewood, Ala./Homewood HS) who beat the opposing goalkeeper to give the Panthers a 2-0 lead.

Two minutes later, BSC would tack on its third goal of the night. Freshman forward Christian Hernandez (Ft. Payne, Ala./Ft. Payne HS) produced the goal with an assist from sophomore Will Gannaway (Decatur, Ala./Decatur HS).

Birmingham-Southern's fourth and final goal of the evening came courtesy of freshman Max Sager (Baton Rouge, La./Runnels HS) in the 84th minute. A bombed ball in from senior captain Luke Hambleton (Fort Walton Beach, Fla./Choctawhatchee HS) found Sager who took a few touches to beat the last defender and slotted the ball past the Tigers goalkeeper for his first career goal.

The Birmingham-Southern defense allowed just one shot on goal which was saved by senior Galen Curry (Birmingham, Ala./Spain Park HS), who played 88 minutes before being relieved by fellow senior William Meehan (Huntsville, Ala./Huntsville HS).

The Panthers outshot the Tigers 21-10 and led on corner kicks 6-3.

Birmingham-Southern will hit the road for the first time this season when they travel to Rome, Ga., for its next game against Marietta.
