BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern men's soccer team fell to the Pensacola Christian College Eagles 3-2 in overtime on Saturday evening.

With a 2-0 lead and less than 20 minutes to play, a man-down Birmingham-Southern (0-1) saw a goal from Pensacola Christian (2-0) and an own goal level the game in regulation before the Eagles snatched victory away from the Panthers in extra time.

After a scoreless opening 45 minutes, sophomore forward Christian Hernandez (Ft. Payne, Ala./Ft. Payne HS) opened his account for the 2019 campaign with an unassisted goal in the 47th minute. Then, 25 minutes later in the 72nd minute, Hernandez played a role in BSC's second goal, assisting senior Gio Adan (Pelham, Ala./Pelham HS), who slotted home his first career goal to give the Panthers the 2-0 lead.

Less than two minutes later, an errant defensive header by BSC landed in the back of the Panthers' net, serving as the equalizer for Pensacola Christian.

Tied at 2-2 at the end of 90 minutes, the match was sent into overtime. During the first overtime period, BSC managed one shot but it was not enough in the end. With just six seconds to go before the conclusion of the first extra time period, a PCC corner kick from Jake McClelland found Hayden Hoffman who put the ball into the back of BSC's net for the heartbreaking golden goal winner.
