MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern men's soccer team fell 4-2 on the road at Huntingdon on Wednesday night.
The Panthers and Hawks went into halftime knotted up at 1-1, but the home side scored three straight goals to open the second half, leaving BSC in too big a deficit.
To start the game, Huntingdon's Hunter Hall opened the scoring in the third minute, giving the Hawks the early lead. But seven minutes later, Will Gannaway (Decatur, Ala./Decatur HS) equalized for BSC on a free kick goal from just outside the box. The goal was Gannaway's first of the season.
The two sides were even at the half but 10 minutes into the final 45, Huntingdon retook the lead on a ball crossed into the box. The Hawks tacked on another quick goal 30 seconds later and scored their final goal of the evening in the 65th minute to take the 4-1 lead.
Junior Matthew Lansdell (Huntsville, Ala./Huntsville HS) pulled one back for the Panthers in the 88th minute with help on an assist from freshman Coleman Jennings (Vestavia Hills, Ala./Vestavia Hills HS), but it proved too little too late.
BSC outshot Huntingdon 23 to 14 and had 10 shots on goal to the Hawks' eight. Senior goalkeeper Kurt Moore (Euharlee, Ga./Darlington School) finished the game with four saves.
With the 4-2 loss to Huntingdon, Birmingham-Southern drops to 0-2-0 on the year. The Panthers will look to rebound when they return to the Hilltop to face Gordon on Friday, Sept. 6.
